I couldn't put the book down. It was as if every one of the pups
had been my own. I was angry, I was sad, and at times, I was happy. It's easy to see that this writer really knows her stuff
and that she put her heart into it. I rate it six out of six possible warm wet noses. A great book for any pet lover.

This novel deals with a mysterious red book, which follows
the story of a litter of Shepherd puppies. I learned about dog care & health procedures. I especially liked that the author
made sure to write about spaying and neutering. Hug your furry best friend! It's like reading Animal Planet SPCA!

Ms Benzel's insight and sensitivity to the feelings and personalities of
our precious four-legged friends is truly amazing. She becomes their ghost-writer! This touching page-turner should be required
reading by vet school students, care givers, and most importantly anyone who thinks it would be "fun" to bring more
puppies into the world. If more humans could be made aware of what happens to the dogs they sell or give away, they might
think twice about breeding their own pets or buying pets from puppy mills and inexperienced breeders. We all have family and
friends who should read this book. I know I do.

This review is from: Backyard Dog (Paperback)This book gave me a feeling of connection to the characters (puppies)while
at the same time it taught me a lot about how people don't really understand how deeply their pets feel. As a proverbial optimist,
I want to believe in the best in people. After reading this book, I came to realize that some people really are not very sensitive
nor kind. In fact, there were times when I wanted to reach into the page and grab a character to say, "You're dog is
in trouble." I know that any animal lover will have a hard time putting this book down - it's a true grabber.
